Software & Access

Get the tools you need to succeed—on campus or at home. From essential software and remote access to hardware lending and reliable network support, we make sure you stay connected and equipped.

Software / 3D Animation

Apple Mac OS with bundled apps; Adobe After Effects; Adobe Creative Cloud Suite, including: Bridge, Dreamweaver, Fireworks, Flash, Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, Premiere Pro, After Effects; Apple Final Cut Pro; Autodesk Entertainment Creation Suite Ultimate, including: Maya, Sketchbook Designer, Composite, Matchmover, Mudbox; Pixelogic ZBrush, GarageBand; iStopMotion; Keynote; Numbers; Pages; Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word; OmniGraffle Pro and other specialized software.

Our 3D Animation Certificate Program utilizes industry-standard software:

  • Autodesk® Maya® with Arnold: Industry-leading 3D modeling, animation, and rendering software.
  • Maxon ZBrush: High-end 3D modeling and texturing software, widely used for character design.
  • Marvelous Designer: Advanced 3D cloth and fabric simulation tool for animation and fashion design.
  • Substance Painter: Industry-standard 3D painting and texturing software for film and gaming projects.
Remote Software Access

Many software programs, including Adobe Creative Cloud, are available remotely through the college’s IT department or free online resources

Lending

Books on Digital Arts, software, and Design are available for Students and Faculty to consult while working in the building. Video and audio equipment is available for 48-hour loan to Students currently enrolled in Digital Video classes only. See the Tech Office for details, special requests, and equipment checkouts.

Network

Ethernet and Wi-Fi service throughout the building. Server space is available for Digital Art Students on request. Digital Art Faculty have server space for their classes.

Lab & Tech Resources

Each semester a new lab schedule is available. Please stop by the Tech Office after the semester begins for the final schedule.

Access

Is permitted for currently enrolled Westchester Community College Students, Faculty, and Staff. College policies and Lab rules are enforced at all times. No children are allowed in labs except during youth programs.

Open Lab Time

Is available for Digital Art Students in any of 5 Digital Art Labs. All Students may work in B Lab. Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint are available in B Lab.

Resources

Lab Assistants offer technical and a/v support for students and faculty in the labs and smart classrooms.

Hardware

11 classrooms have projectors for Faculty demonstration purposes and have been upgraded to Smart Podium/Smart Board technology. Including 2 Multimedia Lecture Halls. Our 5 Digital Arts Labs including one Microsoft Surface Studio are available with software for 3D Animation, Graphics, Game Design and Digital Video. There are large format flatbed, slide, and transparency scanners, large format color inkjet printers, black and white laser printers. Introducing our upgraded D-Lab which is home to a Makerspace which has 7 Makerbot 3D printers.

Creative Studios & Tools

Bring your ideas to life with access to state-of-the-art studios and equipment. Whether you’re printing in 3D, editing video, or working on digital art, our spaces are built to support your creativity.

3D Printing Lab

The center offers seven Creality 3D printers, which use PLA filament, an eco-friendly, non-toxic material made from corn. These printers are essential for projects in digital design and 3D modeling.

Post-Production Studios

Our five studios are equipped with:

  • iMac workstations (four studios)
  • Microsoft Surface Studio machines (one studio)

These workstations are available for students enrolled in:

  • Digital Filmmaking
  • Digital Imaging & Graphic Design
  • Web & Game Design
  • 3D Animation

Virtual and Mixed Reality:
Our Mixed Reality program features the Meta Quest 2 headset, providing students with hands-on experience in Virtual Reality (VR) development.

HyFlex Classrooms:
Our HyFlex classrooms are designed to support simultaneous in-person and remote learning, offering flexibility for hybrid courses.

Digital Arts Studios

The studios feature the latest version of Adobe Creative Cloud, including:

  • Photoshop
  • Illustrator
  • InDesign
  • After Effects (in filmmaking studios)

Filmmaking Studios are also equipped with:

  • Final Cut Pro for professional video editing
  • Adobe After Effects for motion graphics and visual effects

Mixed Reality (XR) Program:
Our Mixed Reality Certificate utilizes:
Unreal Engine for AR/VR development and 2D/3D game design, an industry-standard game design engine used in film, simulation, and virtual production.
