Graduation Applicant Timeline

This refers to the term in which you have officially and successfully completed all degree requirements. You must complete the graduation application (https://www.sunywcc.edu/academics/graduation/checklist/) by the deadline on the academic calendar and indicate the semester your requirements will be complete. Contact the [email protected] if you need assistance with applying.

Students can graduate in August at the end of the summer semester, December at the end of the fall semester, or May at the end of the spring semester, however, there is only one commencement ceremony that takes place in May at the end of the spring semester. It is recommended you meet with your curriculum chair during your last semester to ensure all graduation requirements are met.

Confirmation of degree completion will take place at the end of each semester listed above once all official grades are posted diplomas will be mailed to the address on file with the college on your mywcc account.

December Completion Celebration

For students who complete their degree and graduate in August and December, the college invites these students to celebrate their degree completion in advance of the May Commencement. This event is intended to offer students an opportunity to gather and be recognized for their endeavors.

All August and December graduates are invited to participate in Commencement in May as well.

Commencement

Commencement is often referred to as “graduation,” but it is different. The commencement ceremony is just that, a ceremony. It is a celebration for students projected to successfully complete all degree or certificate requirements by the end of the academic year. Students completing their requirements by the end of summer session should participate in the May ceremony.

You will not receive a diploma at the commencement ceremony, but you will receive a diploma cover. Confirmation of degree completion will take place once all official grades are posted and diplomas will be mailed to the address on file with the college on your mywcc account.

Verify Your Information

Please verify and correct the spelling of your name and your address. After an application for graduation is submitted, the process begins.

Curriculum Chair Review

After all grades are posted for the ( spring , summer or fall) term each potential graduate’s record must then be audited by the appropriate curriculum chair for a review of all degree and/or certificate requirements. Final notification by all curriculum chairs for degree approval and/or denial of each student will be sent to the Registrar’s Office. Thereafter, your degree and/or certificate will be posted to your student record and your transcript will indicate your degree and/or certificate was earned.

Financial Information

Diplomas and certificates will be ordered next. Any outstanding hold placed on your account by either the Bursar’s Office or the Financial Aid Office must to be resolved with those offices before your degree can be ordered and released. Notification will be sent to our graduates via their Westchester Community College email account. Degrees are mailed directly from our vendor to your home address. Be sure to activate and link your Westchester Community College email to enable you to check regularly for updates.
